Meet Rose
Founder & Director of Wye Knot Community
Hi, I’m Rosemary Sales, although most people know me simply as Rose.
I’m the founder and director of Wye Knot Community, an outdoor instructor, Forest School practitioner, author, explorer, inventor and passionate community builder.
But before all the titles and qualifications, I’m simply someone who believes that people, nature and adventure can change lives.
That belief is at the heart of everything I do.
Wye Knot Community grew from my passion for bringing people together, getting outdoors and creating opportunities for people to experience things they may never have thought possible.
My work now spans Forest School, outdoor learning, intergenerational projects, movement and wellbeing, dementia-friendly activities, wilderness adventures, workshops, community projects and experiences for businesses, schools, families and groups.
I’m based in Herefordshire and spend my time creating and delivering experiences that help people connect, learn, move, explore, build confidence and try something new.
Where it all began
Since 2018, I’ve continued to develop projects that bring people together and respond to what communities actually need.
One of the things I’m particularly passionate about is intergenerational work.
I’ve worked with people from babies through to people aged over 100, creating opportunities for different generations to meet, learn from one another and share experiences through nature, movement, play and outdoor activities.
I created Playing Together, an intergenerational playgroup in Herefordshire, alongside movement and wellbeing projects, dementia-focused activities, Forest School programmes and other community initiatives.
During the pandemic, I also co-created WyldWood, a newspaper designed to help connect generations at a time when people were physically separated.
For me, Wye Knot has never simply been about running activities.
It’s about creating opportunities for people to feel included, valued, capable and connected — and sometimes giving someone the confidence to try something they never thought they could do.
Adventure changed my life
Adventure is a huge part of who I am.
I’ve always been drawn to the outdoors, but over the years adventure has become much more than simply travelling or trying new activities.
It has taught me about resilience, courage, confidence and what can happen when you step outside your comfort zone.
One of my biggest adventures was joining the first British team to canoe the uncharted Delgermörön River in Mongolia, paddling approximately 300km through an extraordinary and challenging landscape.
That expedition became much more than an adventure.
It changed the way I looked at my own life and what I believed was possible.
In 2025, I became a published author with my memoir, Life Map to Mongolia: Overcoming the Odds, sharing my story and some of the lessons I’ve learned through my experiences and adventures.
I continue to seek out new adventures because I genuinely believe that you never know what you are capable of until you give something a go.
Women, wilderness & confidence
My own experiences have also shaped the work I do with women.
I lead Women’s Wilderness Weekends and outdoor adventures, creating opportunities for women to step away from everyday life, reconnect with nature, learn new skills and discover what they are capable of.
You don’t need to be an experienced adventurer to join me.
You don’t need to know how to light a fire, navigate, paddle a river or sleep outdoors.
You simply need a willingness to try.
Sometimes the biggest adventure is simply having the courage to say “yes” to something new.
The inventor in me
I’ve always been someone who sees a problem and thinks:
“There must be a better way.”
That mindset eventually led me to create Wye Knot Soap Bands® — a wearable, adventure-ready soap designed for people who love being outdoors.
The idea came from my own experiences travelling and adventuring and from wanting a simple way to carry soap without losing it in rivers, lakes or the outdoors.
But I didn’t want to create something that was simply another product.
I wanted it to give something back.
The Wye Knot Soap Project connects my love of adventure with my passion for community. The project helps support outdoor learning for younger people and wellbeing experiences for older people and care homes.
It’s another example of something I believe strongly in:
business can be about more than making money — it can create opportunities for people too.

I believe qualifications are important, but experience matters too.
My work has taken me into schools, care homes, community settings, Forest School sites, rivers, mountains and wilderness environments, working with people across generations and with a wide range of abilities and needs.
I’m constantly learning because the people I work with deserve the best experience, the highest standards of safety and an environment where they feel welcomed, respected, supported and included.
For me, professional development isn’t about collecting certificates.
It’s about making sure that when someone comes to Wye Knot Community, they are in safe, capable and caring hands.
Why Wye Knot?
At the heart of everything I do is a very simple belief:
Everyone deserves the opportunity to feel included, try something new and discover what they are capable of.
Whether I’m sitting around a fire with a group of women, teaching a child a new outdoor skill, working with someone living with dementia, taking a group onto the river, creating an intergenerational project or developing a completely new idea — the goal is always the same.
Connect people.
Build confidence.
Create memories.
Give people a reason to say “yes”.
That’s what Wye Knot Community means to me.
I’m still learning.
I’m still exploring.
I’m still coming up with ideas.
And I’m nowhere near finished yet.
So… Wye Knot?
Come and join me.
My Expedition & Project Experiences
2024 & 2025

2023 - 2026

Sweden – Women’s Wilderness Canoe Challenge
I was incredibly proud to secure funding to deliver a Women’s Wilderness Canoe Challenge in Sweden, working with military wives.
I was the Outdoor Coach for the expedition, supporting the women through a challenging outdoor experience designed to build friendships, communication, confidence and strong connections.
For me, this project was about much more than canoeing. I wanted to create an environment where the women could challenge themselves, learn new skills, support one another and build friendships that could continue beyond the expedition.
Seeing the women grow in confidence and overcome challenges together was incredibly rewarding.
USA – Women’s Wellness Project | 2023
In 2024, I also had the opportunity to work in Virginia, USA, delivering a women’s wellness project.
This allowed me to take my experience of outdoor adventure, wellbeing and connection into an international setting and work with women in a completely different environment.
In the same year, I was named one of the Top 20 Female Leaders to Look Out For in 2024, recognising my work and leadership.
USA – Intergenerational Forest School | 2025
In 2025, I returned to the USA to develop my work further, including my intergenerational Forest School approach.
This was particularly meaningful to me because intergenerational work is such an important part of what I do. I believe strongly in bringing generations together through nature, outdoor learning and shared experiences.
USA – Wye Knot Soap Bands® | 2026
In 2026, I returned to the USA to put my own invention, Wye Knot Soap Bands®, through its paces in real adventure environments.
Testing my product in challenging outdoor conditions gave me the opportunity to see how it performed in the environments it was designed for and continue developing it through real-world experience.
These experiences have taken me far beyond my work in Herefordshire and have allowed me to learn, challenge myself, work with incredible people and continue developing ideas that bring adventure, connection and opportunity to others.
2025

Mongolia – Extreme River Expedition | 2025
In 2025, I joined an extreme expedition to Mongolia, becoming part of the first British team to canoe and map an uncharted river, covering approximately 300km through remote wilderness.
The expedition challenged me physically and mentally and became a huge part of my personal journey.
You can read more about my Mongolia expedition and the journey behind it in my book, Life Map to Mongolia: Overcoming the Odds.
